About Down Syndrome
Down syndrome affects people of all ages, races and economic levels. It is the most frequently occurring chromosomal abnormality, occurring once in approximately every 800 to 1,000 live births. Over 350,000 people in the United States alone have Down syndrome. Down syndrome is the result of extra genetic material in the 21st chromosome. Down syndrome is not contagious nor is it passed from parent to child. Please click here to go to the National Down Syndrome Society page that provides more detail about Down Syndrome.
